Ronnie Modelle was a fictional character/alias/alibi that I created whilst living on Caty Crabb's farm outside of Asheville many moons ago. The name was just slightly different than mine own, and I figured I could slip into and out of character depending on who was looking for Ryan or Ronnie. As with all aliases, I could choose to be all or none of them at a moments notice. Cue 20 years later and I am married and living in GODDAMN California! I decided that as an old man, it is finally time to quit drinkin' and playin de fool and take care of my body and mind. The pandemic hit, and for almost a year I revert to feral (yet sober) Modee and just eat ice cream and do push-ups, work, and watch TV. I decided that I'm getting further and further from the good Modee I want to be and I find a Muay Thai gym real close to my house! GOD DANG I fell in love with the self torture that is Muay Thai! I have been planning on writing and recording an album as Ronnie, singing Country songs that sound like lost love and drinking, but are secretly about sobriety and Muay Thai. I've been super busy doing all my bullshit, but guess what? I finally got Covid and had a few days to start flushing these songs out. I don't know if I'll ever get a full Country band together out here in SF to get this project to full fruition, but here is the first step. Hopefully a full band's album will come out of this, but I'll settle for a weird 7" or just digital shit like this. Oddly, Ronnie has played live. I grew out a goofy ass mustache, played these Muay Thai/Sobriety songs, and even a few Squishers/This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb songs with a good hard drawl. Maybe one day I'll be able to flush these out with a live Hillbilly band o' my own. SF country MF's who can pedal steel or Honkytonk piano or stand up bass hit my ass up.
